During my stay in Napoli meeting Gina, we made an additional day trip to Pompeji, which is pretty close by. Pompeji is/was a Roman city, destroyed and preserved by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD. Buried under volcanic ash, its ruins remained lost for centuries before being rediscovered in 1748. Today, Pompeii is a world-renowned archaeological site and UNESCO World Heritage Site. Outstanding.
